Hip-Hop 101: Back to the Basics Show

For those that were at Hard Knox Grill in Cayce, SC on Saturday night probably thought they were going to listen to some watered down South Carolina hip hop music. Instead, the patrons of Hard Knox received a true lesson in Hip-Hop 101: Back to the Basics.  The performers on the bill were Fat Rat Da Czar, Dan Johns, Heazy Boi, Eclipz, and Sheekeese tha Beast on the wheelz of steel.  It’s been awhile since Hip Hop has been performed outside of the walls of New Brookland Tavern, but the owner Pete opened up his doors and gave local hip hop artists another home.

Shekeese tha Beast started out the night getting everyone hyped with old school jamz to get us ready for class.  E-clipz who used to be in the group Odyssee started off hard on the mike with a couple of songs from his new album scheduled to come out this year. Check out some more of his music here on SChiphop.com or on his myspace page.  Next up, came Dan Johns out of Florence, SC who always commands attention when he’s on stage.  Everyone in the room stands around with their hands crossed and heads bobbin because you have to stop and really listen to the lyrics he spits!  He is a beast lyrically on the mic with a nice flow and you gotta respect his hustle. After a short intermission the next cat to come up was Heazy Boi out of VA.  Apart of Streetside he is definitely nice on the mike and has gritty sound about him.

South carolina hip hop fat ratLast, but definitely not least came Fat Rat Da Czar who was the perfect ending to a great night of hip hop music.  He pulled everyone to the front of the stage and interacted with the crowd making us feel like we were apart of the show.  He provided a little something for the fellas and even took it down a notch for the ladies with help from Mike Smith.  Fat Rat let us know that Streetside was in the building with guest appearances from Mentality and Met Money to perform “Ride Wit Me” which has been featured on 100.1 The Beat. The last song of the night was “Do Whud I do” and this joint always gets hands in the air and the crowd hyped!

If you were not in the building for this show then put yourself in detention.  Class dismissed!
